The first Rotterdam set sail in 1872, beginning a Holland America tradition and reputation that continued through the Rotterdam V, one of the most beloved ships of all time. In the grand tradition of the Rotterdam ships, fascinating Holland America memorabilia can be found throughout the ship, such as specially commissioned works of art ranging from oil paintings, to sculptures, to textile designs and much more. For more recent history of these cruise ships, guests can view a tribute to the first (and leading) Italian Cruise Company by glancing up at the ceiling of the main lobby known as the Costa Atrium where models of 26 past members of the Costa fleet are displayed. The spectacular Maschera d'Argento Atrium spans 10 decks high and features an incredible sculpture of dancers suspended mid-air. This unique Costa fleet boat is reminiscent of an aristocratic Sicilian palace, the two-level Degli Argentieri Restaurant is adorned with exquisite objects d'art and frescos.
